Rustic Creek Ranch

Last weekend we went on our first family camping trip to Rustic Creek Ranch. We had a really good time. There was so much for the kids to do. I am not a big camper but we will definitely go back to this site. We woke up Saturday morning to the first really good rain we have had in a LONG time. After watching the news we decided that the rain would probably clear up any minute and we shouldn't let it ruin our plans. We stopped at chick-fil-a in Burleson for a quick bite only to discover that the power was out. Luckily we got their last chicken minis and hot coffee. We ate with no lights or AC and then hit the road. The camp site was great. A little closer to the 4 huge propane tanks than I would prefer, but overall very nice. It was still raining as we set up camp but no lightning or thunder. We let the boys play in puddles for the next hour or so. I packed just a few changes of clothes since we were only staying one night. We went through all their clothes in the first 2 hours.

Our home away from home! Pappy let us borrow the Casita and it was awesome. We were the shortest camper there by about 10 feet. There were campers the size of houses out there. I still can't imagine how you drive one of those things down the road!

I love this family pic. We were hanging out by one of the clubhouses and a sweet lady offered to take our photo. It rarely happens that everyone is looking and smiling at the camera at the same time.

We checked out the calendar of events and showed up just in time to take a fire truck ride around the grounds. Yes, it was still raining but no one seemed to mind. Especially not the Shepard boys, they loved it.

Next we went to one of the two pools. (they will have a water park open in the Spring!). It was still raining a little but the water was warm so we hopped in. There was a family reunion going on right by the pool so we had live music from the Yancey Family elders to relax to. It was awesome.

Next we went on a hayride around the grounds. It wasn't your typical hayride. Around every corner one of the staff would spray everyone down with a water hose. The kids thought it was so funny.

Funny faces!

After dinner at the nearby Babes we headed back to the clubhouse for movie night.

This photo pretty much sums it up. Craziness. Great weekend.
